SWSi staff recognised for excellent service to public education and training

Damien Prentice Director Generals AwardDamien Prentice, a longstanding TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute staff member, has been awarded the prestigious Director General’s Award for Excellent Service to Public Education and Training.

Damien is the Director, Learning Environment and current Acting Associate Institute Director of South Western Sydney Institute (Bankstown College Office).

He was recognised at an awards ceremony held at the Department of Education and Training’s state office in Sydney this week for his outstanding contributions within TAFE NSW.

He was one of 45 individuals that received recognition for improving the teaching and learning environment and/or to student learning outcomes at their school, Institute, regional or state office.

The annual award was presented by the Director-General of the NSW Department of Education and Communities, Dr Michele Bruniges, Dr Bruniges said all recipients embodied “the commitment to excellence that is recognised by the Awards.”

"It is these individuals' dedication and commitment that makes our education system world-class."

Peter Roberts, South Western Sydney Institute Director says Damien was extremely deserving of the Award.

“Damien has made an exceptional contribution to public education throughout a career spanning 28 years in TAFE NSW and has made a significant contribution to SWSi’s success as a leading tertiary educational provider,” he said.

“As the Director Learning Environment, Damien continually looks for new ways to improve our staff and students’ experiences across our nine colleges of South Western Sydney Institute.

“He is an asset to our Institute and our students. On behalf of the Institute, I congratulate Damien on his outstanding achievement,” he said.

Nominations for the Director-General's Award for Excellent Service to Public Education can come from within the ranks of teachers in primary and secondary public schools or in TAFE NSW colleges or campus; principals; regional or state office curriculum consultants, administrators, school or TAFE NSW administrative and support staff, parents, community volunteers or members of the wider community.
