Twelve outstanding students from TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute (SWSi) have received a prestigious TAFE NSW State Medal for achieving the highest mark in their TAFE course.
The TAFE NSW State Medal is awarded to students who have achieved first place in NSW for their course, based on their results in 2011.
The top students came from diverse course areas including Automotive, Building and Construction, Butchery (Meat Retailing), Disability, Environmental Technology, Information Technology, Tourism, and Laboratory Technology.
The SWSi students will be honoured at the 18th Annual TAFE NSW - South Western Sydney Institute Achievement Awards, held at The Cube, Campbelltown Catholic Club next month (6 June) where they will be presented with their Medal.
The Institute Achievement Awards acknowledge the outstanding achievements of both students and staff. The gala event showcases the highest standards of teaching and learning, student success stories and promotes the strong relationship the Institute has with industry partners.
High achieving Granville butchery student, Matthew Papandrea, studied a Certificate III in Meat Processing (Meat Retailing) and said he was honoured to have received the accolade.
“Receiving this medal is a privilege and I am thankful that it has been awarded to me,” he said.
“I’ve always had a passion for this trade and love to be innovative and creative with the meat I display or am working on. My TAFE course has helped me achieve my goals and provided me with a broader perspective of the trade I am entering.”
Institute Director, Peter Roberts, congratulated the students on their accomplishments, remarking they have rightly taken their place among TAFE NSW’s highest achievers and are outstanding ambassadors for the south western Sydney region.
“To receive a TAFE NSW State Medal is a true honour; these students have worked hard to come first in NSW in their fields and are to be commended.
“SWSi is proud to have been a part of preparing these outstanding students for the workforce and we wish them well in their careers,” said Mr Roberts.
