Justice of the peace

The functions of a Justice of the Peace, under the Justices of the Peace Act 2002, are to:

  • administer oath declarations or affidavits,
  • take statutory declarations and affirmations principally under the Oaths Act 1900;
  • witness signatures; and
  • attest and certify documents

If you need a Justice of the Peace, ask at your local Customer Service Office.

There are several members of staff at each college who can assist you but you will need to book a time to see them as they may not always be available.

Justices of the Peace can also be located at:

  • police stations
  • chemist shops
  • local council offices
  • libraries and,
  • government agencies

More information can be found at the NSW Government's Justices of the Peace website.
