We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of this land within SWSi and pay our respects to our Elders both past and present.

South Western Sydney Institute's Aboriginal Unit works in partnership with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, Government Departments and Aboriginal/non-Aboriginal organisations to identify training and capacity building strategies to ensure educational programs are provided in a culturally appropriate manner.

The unit offers advice to students, community and TAFE staff on:

  • Aboriginal TAFE courses
  • Customised programs to meet community needs
  • VET programs targeted at Aboriginal students
  • Aboriginal identified Traineeships and Apprenticeships
  • Course/Career Pathway Directions
  • Choosing the right course
  • Career and training planning
  • Links to employment pathways
  • Learner Support / Assistance
  • Abstudy advice
  • Additional classroom support
  • Mentoring of students

Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme Specialist support is available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people seeking access to education and vocational training within TAFE NSW.

Aboriginal students are supported by an Aboriginal Education Coordinator, who can assist with enquiries, as well as offer advice on general issues related to Aboriginal education.

For further information contact the Aboriginal Unit on (02) 9825 7429.
